Retrospective - 1/7/2010

To the Outer Hebrides and back.

Since the last entry into our blog so much has happened.

We left the Island of Mull, and sailed from Oban to Barra in the Outer Hebrides. The crossing was terrible due to the stormy seas, both of us feeling properly sea-sick by the time we reached Barra.

From here we journeyed northwards, crossing over to the beautiful & tiny island of Eriskay. We bussed further, and further north crossing the islands of South&North Uist. Our day ended on another beautiful island on the northern part of Uist called Berneray. We pitched our small tent next to the beautiful white sands and turquoise waters of the island.

Next morning we made another crossing to yet another set of islands: Harris & Lewis – with their tall mountains set in the windy Atlantic they really seem to be WILD. We stayed in a rustic youth hostel (in an old black house) on the western shores of the island.
We walked along the wild shores to Dalmore beach (same spelling Andrew&Pippa!!), visited the ancient standing stones (>5000 years old) and just stood in awe of the beauty (and wonderful weather)

Today dawned misty & cloudy and brought rain as we left the islands to the Isle of Skye. Tomorrow we meet up with my brother to continue the next leg of our journey with him!
